About SCKD SCKD Sidebar × \n\n About SCKD Why SCKD Doctors@SCKD About SCKD About SCKD The Singapore Clinic for Kidney Diseases was started by Dr Pary Sivaraman in 2006.\n\nPrior to starting this clinic, Dr Pary Sivaraman practised at the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore.\n\nHe was the former Director of the Adult Kidney Transplant Program and managed several complex kidney transplants including cross match positive kidney transplants and combined bone marrow and kidney transplantation that resulted in transplant tolerance. He actively managed all types of Renal Medicine inpatients and outpatients and General Internal Medicine inpatients\n\nAt NUH, he was involved in several hospital committees that included the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Evidence Based Medicine.\n\nHe was a member of the Transplant Advisory Committee and the Renal Care Committee that provided advice to the Ministry of Health, Singapore on Transplantation and Renal Medicine, respectively.
He provided expert advice on various renal related medications to the regulatory authority, Health Sciences Authority, Singapore\n\nHe was an active member in the Specialist Training Committee for Renal Medicine, Singapore that provided guidance in training of renal physicians (nephrologists).\n\nHe took part in various clinical research projects and presented at high level international meetings that included the American Society of Nephrology, American Society of Transplantation, European Society of Transplantation, etc.\n\nAfter starting his clinic, he has continued to manage complex kidney transplants including second transplants, transplants in hepatitis B positive patients, ABO incompatible kidney transplant, etc. He continues to manage all type of Renal Medicine patients and General Internal Medicine patients.\n\nHe has also introduced double filtration plasma pheresis (DFPP) in kidney transplantation and in the management of immune mediated kidney diseases that didn\'t respond to standard therapy.
He has used DFPP in other immune mediated diseases eg demyelinating polyneuropathy, etc. He was the first doctor locally to perform LDL pheresis to manage patient with severe dyslipidemia.\n\nHe was also a member of the Medical Advisory Board, Mt Elizabeth Hospital, Orchard. He has been Chairman of Medical Quality Assuarance Committee and represented the Nephrology Urology Specialty Interest Group. He is the current Chairman of the Transplant Specialty Interest Group of Parkway Group of Hospitals.
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) CKD encompasses many kidney and general diseases (eg hypertension or diabetes) that result in loss of kidney function over months to years.\n\nIn the early stages of CKD, most patients do not have any symptoms.\n\nSymptoms may appear only when the kidney function is significantly impaired.\n\nUnfortunately, most of these symptoms may not be specific enough to alert someone of the presence of CKD.\n\nWhen CKD is moderately advanced or beyond, progresssion to end stage kidney failure is almost impossible to prevent.
\n\nThe only treatment that is available for end stage kidney failure at the present moment is dialysis or kidney transplantation.\n\nCKD at its early stage can be detected by doing a simple blood and urine test.\n\nPatients at risk should do these tests and consult a Renal Physician for further advice.\n\nWith appropriate treatment, CKD progression can either be halted or slowed to prevent end stage kidney failure in a significant number of patients.\n\nDo the necessary tests.

Age: as one grows older the risk increases\n\nProteins in the urine\n\nBlood in the urine\n\nElevated serum creatinine (or increase in serum creatinine with time)\n\nHypertension: as much as 1 in 5 to 10 adults with hypertension can have CKD\n\nDiabetes mellitus (DM): as much as 1 in 3 to 4 adults with DM can have CKD\n\nIschemic heart disease (heart attack or angina) (history of)\n\nCerebrovascular accident (stroke) (history of)\n\nObesity (especially morbid obesity)\n\nImmune mediated or rheumatological conditions like lupus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis, etc\n\nRecurrent or multiple kidney stones\n\nLong term medications (eg pain-killers)\n\nFamily history of CKD × Modal Title .
